What is a School Site Council? What does it do? Why do we have one? |
|
| |
A School Site Council is a body composed of members of the school community, elected by constituencies within the school community. It is responsible for overseeing implementation of the School Plan & understanding the school budget. This includes selecting & monitoring school projects
which may receive ~$50,000. The Site
Council is regularly updated on school & district
issues, budget matters, & other important issues.
California State Law --
• |
requires each public school that receives "School Improvement Program" funds to have a Site Council, |
• |
specifies how members are to be selected, |
• |
& specifies the Council's powers, duties, and responsibilities. |
|
|
| |
When does our Site Council meet? |
|
| |
Paly's Site Council meets after school (3:30 to 5:30)
on most 1st & 3rd Mondays each month of the school
year.
Site Council meetings are open to the public. Agendas & minutes are posted online [click here] and in the main hall in the Tower Building.
|
|
|
Who is on our Site Council? |
|
| |
The Site Council is composed of parents, staff, & students elected to represent their constituencies
in site-based decision making. Parent reps are elected by the parents; staff reps are elected by staff; and student reps are elected by the students. The number of staff members is equal to the number of parents + students combined.
|
|
| |
How many Parent Reps are there? How many will we elect this year? |
|
| |
There are four Parent Reps, with staggered two-year terms.
The terms of Katy Hall and Ning Xu will end in 2008.
The terms of Elspeth Farmer and Lorraine Brown will end in 2009.

Each year, Paly families elect two parents, using paper ballots that are distributed in the summer mailing & collected in August, at registration. The parent reps we elect this year will serve from 2008 until June 2010. |
